Education

help us to create a future for children in bonded labor

Support a School

Education is central to the Freeslaves project. Many of the children in slavery have no concept of a life outside the kiln. They cannot read or write and have no idea of their purpose in life. Consequently, they have no vision for the future.

To make education as accessible as possible, we locate our small classrooms close to the kilns. We negotiate with the kiln owners to allow the children to attend school, and in one case the kiln owner even allowed us to run our school at the kiln itself. We also allow children who are too poor to afford state school to attend.

We currently operate seven schools with 15 teachers, educating 253 children who would otherwise not have access to an education. In addition, we run adult literacy classes in the evenings. We are currently working to develop our schools and provide greater support and training for our teachers.
